Compress, convert, resize and clean up your photos.

Which tool you actually need

A photo can be “too heavy” for two different reasons, and they call for two different tools. If the file is large but its pixel dimensions are fine, you want Compress images. If the image is enormous in pixels — a twelve-megapixel photo inside a document that shows it eight centimetres wide — that is where the weight is, and removing it at the source is the job of Resize and crop. On the same photo, the second often does more than the first.

Convert format is for when the problem is not weight but opening: iPhone HEIC photos, WebP and AVIF files that older software will not recognise. And Remove metadata strips what the camera writes into the file without telling you — device model, exact date and, if location was switched on, the coordinates of where you took the shot. Worth running on any photo headed for a classified ad, a forum or an email attachment.

Two things to know before you start. Lossy compression cannot be undone: keep the original until you have looked at the result full screen. And your device does the work, so fifty camera shots will take a slow computer a few minutes — the window does not freeze, but it has to stay open.
