Then it tells you exactly what it wrote, which fields were locked and which names it could not find — because a form that comes back with an empty field you thought you had filled is a rejected form. How it works
The fields are read from the document with their names, types and current values. What you type is saved and drawn inside the box, so every reader shows the same thing. The boxes take letters from all over Europe, Greek and Cyrillic; if you type something that cannot be drawn, such as Chinese or emoji, we tell you right beside the field and that field is not filled in. Locked fields — a reference number, say — are left as they are, and we tell you which ones we skipped. You can also lock the form after filling it in, but there is no going back. If the PDF has no real fields we say so, instead of handing you back an identical copy.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I fill in several forms at once?
- No, one at a time, up to 50 MB: the fields you see and the values you type belong to that form. Download the result, then open the next one. If you have several forms already filled in that need locking, “Lock a PDF form” takes up to 20 together.
- Which kinds of field can I fill in?
- Single-line and multi-line text boxes, checkboxes, radio button groups, drop-down menus and lists. Other kinds, such as a digital signature field or a button, show up in the list but are left exactly as they are.
- Can I type letters such as č, ő or ł, or Greek and Cyrillic?
- Yes: the boxes take the letters of every European language — č, ő, ł, ş, ą —, Greek and Cyrillic, and the filled form shows and prints them correctly. Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and emoji are left out: if you type any, we tell you beside the field, which is not filled in.
- Can I sign the form after filling it in?
- Yes: download the filled-in form and open it in “Sign a PDF by hand”, which adds your drawn signature to the page. Because the signature goes on the page rather than into a field, you can add it even after locking the form.
- How do I fill in a password-protected form?
- Drop it in here like any other. If it opens on its own and only forbids editing, the fields appear straight away. If it needs a password to open, press “Fill in the form”: we ask for it in the file’s row, and then the fields appear. The form you download is no longer protected: if it has to stay that way, set the password again at the end with “Protect PDF”.
