How it works
The number is drawn on top of the content of every selected page, like a stamp: the text and images that were there stay untouched underneath, and the document stays searchable and selectable. Rotated pages are taken into account, which is where these tools most often go wrong: on a page turned 90 degrees the number appears upright and in the right corner for whoever is looking, not lying on its side in some other corner. The “Pages” field decides which pages get a number, and “Start at” decides which number goes on the first of them: type 2- and leave 1, and the cover stays clean while the second page carries the “1”. In the formats that say “of N”, N is the highest number printed, so the last page always declares a total that matches what is written above it.
Your files are never uploaded. Anywhere.
Not to a server of ours, not to a third party, never. When you pick a file it stays in your browser’s memory: it is read, processed and written back on your device, and you save the result yourself. There is no path that takes it elsewhere, because there is no server to send it to.
