A PDF carries more than it looks: besides title and author, the software that produced it and — inside the XMP block — often the file path on the creator’s computer, username included. Everything goes, and we show you what was there first.

How it works
The clean-up covers all three places where a PDF hides data: the document properties, the blocks attached to pages, and the private data graphics programs leave behind. Many tools stop at the first — the reader shows nothing any more, but search inside the file and the author’s name is still there. It does not anonymise the document: text, images, comments and attachments stay where they were, and a name written inside a page is not metadata.
Frequently asked questions
- How many PDFs can I clean at once?
- Up to 50, each up to 200 MB and 400 MB in total. For every file you see what was inside before the clean-up; if one was already clean you get the original back untouched. You can download them one by one or all together in a ZIP archive.
- Do bookmarks, links and form fields survive?
- Yes. Only the information about the document goes: title, author, dates, originating software, the XMP block and graphics programs’ private data. Pages, searchable text, bookmarks, links and fillable fields stay exactly where they were.
- Does the cleaned file show which program edited it?
- No. The “Created with” and “Produced by” fields are left empty and no modification date is added, so the file carries no new traces in place of the old ones. If you choose to keep the title, that’s the only piece of information left.
- Should I clean it before or after adding a password?
- Before. You can clean a protected PDF too, by typing its password in the file’s row, but what you download comes out unprotected. So clean it here first, then protect it with “Protect PDF”.
- The name I want to hide is also in the text. What now?
- This tool doesn’t touch what’s on the pages. Use “Redact PDF” to black out the name wherever it appears in the text: the file it produces does not carry over the title, author and other document properties. Then run it through here, which also removes the data still attached to individual pages.
